Three points need to be emphasized: the first is that Iraqi oil has been largely kept in the ground to enable the West and its surrogates to better control supply, and therefore price, and this they have done for over 100 years in spite of the fact that Iraqi oil is plentiful and cheap to get out of the ground. By controlling the Iraqi government, we control the oil, and therefore can influence governments all over the world.

The Second point is that in order to control successive Iraqi governments, we need "boots on the ground" as we do in most countries around the world, so the extensive military bases America has built around Iraq will remain until their strategic importance is offset by events elsewhere. I do not think ANY American president will abandon that bargaining chip.

The third is that the Jewish invasion of the area previously known as Palistine was supported by the West largely because we wanted leverage for the West in that region. The fact that millions of Palistinians have been pushed off their land and at least tens of thousands killed is relatively unimportant to the West. Attrition is the most likely weapon of choice against the remaining Palistinians, since the surrounding Arab/Muslim populations have been politically neutralized with entrenched despots installed and/or supported by the West. Once they have been "pacified" [kill off or jail any with courage to stand up], the remainder can be "absorbed" by other countries in the region.
