Washington is under a lot of pressure to wage a war on Iran to improve Israel and its own position in the region where they are hated as hegemonic and brutal power in concert with Arab puppet heat of states especially Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan who are trying to “prepare” Arab population for a wider conflict against Iran. To do so they want Syria and Hezbollah unarmed and under control or at least greatly weaken before the main action start which is toppling another enemy of the Zionist regime, Iranian government, to have the region’s resources under their full control and makes Israel a regional power for decades to come. Saudis with leadership of Foreign Minster Prince Saud al-Faisal is siding with US and Israel to make sure that this operation goes as smoothly as possible. According to number of reporters the Saudi leadership’s cooperation with US on “Sunnis” and “Shiites” sectarian divide to execute “divide and conquer”, an old imperial game, is not homogenous as some may think. Saudi Foreign Minister apparently is playing the US game when he warned Iran that its support of Hizbollah is a “coup” in Lebanon and is going to have an affect on two countries’ relations. On the other hand King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud does not share the same view. The US position where is echoed by Saudi Foreign Minister Al-Faisal is repeated by Al Hayat, owns by
Saudi Arabia, through few “Journalists” such as Ghassan Charbel and Raghida Dergham, an Egyptian US citizen living in the United States who have dismissed the occupying force and the Zionist aggression in Lebanon as the main cause and instead goes after Iran. In an article
“Lebanon’s Battles in light of the struggle for Regional Domination” which has no substance and has written solely as propaganda material against Iran to fool Arabs to support the US position and its ally the Foreign minister in the following:

“Hezbollah's coup in Lebanon is one of the episodes of a new regional order in the Middle East, one that is imposed by the Islamic Republic of Iran through the language of weapons pointed towards the interior to insure local domination.”

She is provoking “Sunnis” Arab against the “Shiites” Iran and like Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal who uses “Persian,” is trying to break the unity of Lebanese people against aggression. People of the region need to work together regardless of ethnic or religious background to force the invaders out. This propaganda has not gone well with some the readers and has challenged her position and one reader has written:

“i will not blame u for writing these article, because your freedom to write is control and censor.i will rather be in alaska on winter swimming than to be this type of journalist.go find another job like working in the red ligth district in amsterdam,at least u have u freedom to do whatever u like and u dont care a damn”
Thus, the United States and Israel feel an unarm and weaken Hizbollah is the first Step towards a greater war in the middle to strengthen their positions even further and all these rubbish about Hizbollah as a “strong military force” has been greatly exaggerated. Hizbollah’s strength is coming from cooperation among different groups including Hizbollah and thus this strength is a target using ethnic and religious divide to weaken the resistance movement in Lebanon.
To wage another war, they need to take care of Hizbollah first through construction of crisis and therefore on May 7, 2008 Fuad Siniora’s US backed government in cooperation with Druze “leader” Walid Jumblat, a murderer and a puppet threatened to shut down Hizballah’s secret fiber optics communications network which is vital for Hizbollah resistance against Israeli aggression. The government also fired Colonel Wafig Shuguair, the officer in charge of security at Beirut airport, accusing him of being pro Hizballah. The Siniora’s US backed government does not look for “pro Israeli agents” who have destroyed the country earlier with more than 1000 people deaths; rather they are interested in Hizballah as enemy who is part of the government political establishment. They want to turn Beirut airport into a base for the FBI, the CIA or the Israeli Mossad.
I think behind these provocative actions the Lebanese people unity including the Christians is a target. They want to portrait Hizbollah as the strongest military force in Lebanon, a fact or not is not important, therefore, present this force as a THREAT to “Israel existence” and Lebanon’s “independence”. They want to present Hizbollah as a puppet of a foreign power, Iran, and thus is should be subject to elimination and destruction to secure the “sovereignty” of Lebanon, an Arab state and part of the “democratic west.”
This view gets more currency when we look at speeches which have been made since the “crisis.” George Bush gave this belligerent statement: ‘The international community will not allow the Iranian and Syrian regimes, via their proxies, to return Lebanon to foreign domination and control.’
In fact Lebanon is a victim of US blunders, Israeli aggression and Arab puppet states interference, Saudis and Egyptian, manipulation for their own political life and power against their population.
In another situation, Israeli military intelligence chief General Amos Yadlin told the cabinet that “the moderate camp has suffered another blow in Beirut” against “Hizbollah which has shown its military strength.”
The government is also concerned that unrest in Lebanon will boost Iran's influence with Hezbollah and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas. Therefore, exaggeration of Hizbollah’s strength is a TRICK to make it legitimate to go after a resistance movement which has been formed against imperial and Zionist aggression in Lebanon.
The same game has been played on Iran and Iranian position has been greatly exaggerated to fool the ignorant people into buying their lies about Iran as a dominant power which is part of the larger campaign of demonization of Iran with the view to keep the military option on the table.
Mr. Lamb as you correctly have written “Hezbollah, acting in self defense” and is the oppositions who are looking for provocative actions to wage war and put one group against the other. I think it is important to be cautious about these “victories” and view them in a broader sense and in relation to other factors in the region.
Thank you for your contribution on Lebanon to bring a more balanced analysis of the situation to inform the citizens of the empire about facts on the ground.
