My interest in factory farm fires was piqued with recent fires in Canada that suspiciously took place during a massive "culling" to get populations down for profits. I've heard of people setting fires to buildings and homes when real estate sales are slow - It figures animals would follow suite as "commodities" and "property".

There's a (factory farm fire) law the Dutch are proposing:

Thanks for addressing this issue that is yet another layer of animal exploitation.

Thank you for addressing yet another injustice inherent in animal agriculture. Recently, a building containing hundreds of hogs caught fire about twenty miles from where I live, and the animals burned alive. It is hard to imagine their torment, and it is impossible to accept.

There is no such thing as the humane production of meat. It is a myth. Legalistic "pacifists" like the Hutterites need to re-evaluate their value structure. The only compassionate lifestyle is one of vegetarianism; there is no true peace apart from this truth.

'Nothing will benefit human health and increase chances for survival of life on Earth as much as evolution to a vegetarian diet.'
Einstein

'To my mind the life of a lamb is no less precious than that of a human being. I should be unwilling to take the life of a lamb for the sake of the human body.'
Gandhi

Most people don't really listen to Gandhi, they only hear him, and therefore, insult him. And Thoreau and Emerson and Tolstoy and Shaw and Rolland and Shelley and Schweitzer and Einstein and Wells and Van Gogh and I could go on for miles. All our heroes and then some...
There's your truth, your dedication, your sincere commitment to sacred life and needless suffering.
A materialistic meat head is a materialistic meat head, regardless the facade of politics and faith.

I'm an animal activist in Manitoba, and I want to say this reverent requiem for the pigs says it all, so eloquently capturing the grief and frustration we feel whenever another ILO death-trap becomes a fiery inferno. The awful irony is that many of these animals will have enjoyed a more merciful fate than had they lived out the rest of their blighted lives.
