Those indifferent to the public interest, but ever mindful of the benefits to be accrued from loyal service to the parasitic elite, will be promoted. Even the slightest deviation from really existing political correctness, the Rightwing type, not the quasi-mythological Leftist variety, marks one's card for life. The good justice here has made a veiled job application for promotion to the higher levels of the jurisprudential apparatus. Similarly, here in Australia, one of the most recent appointments to our highest court, the High Court, which was relentlessly stacked during the years of the Howard regime, as were all public institutions, with Rightwingers, usually of a fanatic type, drew attention to himself with an article in Quadrant, the flagship of Rightwing agit-prop in this country. In this estimable magazine, once the secret recipient of CIA funding, he fulminated against 'judicial activism'. In our variant of the 'cultural wars' this is Rightwing Newspeak for reaching judgments that favour the rabble, rather than their Masters. Naturally the good judge, once elevated, has positioned himself on the Right of the court (pretty far Right these days) and practices a more genteel, socially acceptable judicial activism, one more to the likings of the owners of the country. His Quadrant article was seen, in cynical quarters, as a long, and successful, job application. The whole sordid business, and this tale related above, illustrate nicely the utter impossibility of reforming our system. Capitalism grows daily more malignant, more destructive, crueler and ineluctable. No corner of the planet is safe from the depredations of the pathologically avaricious. If we kid ourselves that by organising politically through a thoroughly corrupt and complicit 'democratic' system of representative government we can save ourselves and our children from the unfolding cataclysm, then we will waste our time in fruitless efforts. No wonder so many 'activists' burn out or sell out. Our one faint hope is to find some way to burn down the master's house, before he sets the hounds loose on us all.
