The ignorant are confused, the mendacious Denialist claque spread the disinformation, and those that know the truth, that solar activity is closely monitored and its variability is factored into all the computer modeling and forecasts, are perhaps annoyed, amused or outraged at the march of ignorant Denialism, and the indefatigable tenacity of its adherents in continuing to deny the undeniable no matter how great the cost to humanity. hp, when you blame the sun for our global warming, people do hear. Positive feedbacks such as the albedo flip in the Arctic, the increasing number of signs of the saturation of sinks, and emissions from increasing mega-fires cannot be reversed in decades or centuries. Denialism is not yet dead either. It being a matter of fundamentalist ideology, it is identical to 'creation science', is similarly 'faith-based', the religion being Market Fundamentalism in this case, and is well supported by vested business interests. In Australia, despite Murdoch's pretensions to climate change realism, his local flagship 'The Australian' (aka 'The Fundament') even today publishes an ignorant rant by its economics writer Alan Woods, a diehard Market Absolutist, that includes the risible assertion that climate change science is being increasingly questioned. For Fundamentalists belief in their chosen religion is a question of psychological necessity. To face the truth openly, that the religion of unceasing economic growth is cancerous and will inevitably lead to disaster, would destroy their entire raison d'etre. They are employed to ceaselessly propagandise for business, and if conscience was to get in the way, well, they are all replaceable. No doubt the question of the 'death wish' comes into it as well. There is a definite tendency for those on the psycho-social Right to be utterly indifferent to the fate of others. If climate change will devastate the poor world while merely inconveniencing the rich world, and its worst manifestations will not be apparent until after I am dead, the average Rightwing Market Fundamentalist psychopath couldn't give a stuff. Our only, slim, hope of saving our species is to remove these creatures irrevocably from power and influence. That, inevitably, means global violence.
