What struck me about his article is that it is so totally "gringo". The style and mentality is totally "un-European" but typically American. I've googled him and I can't find a single article written in Spanish! Everything is in English and appears on American websites. Also, he is described as "based in Spain", not "Spanish" in the blurb that appears literally everywhere. It was particularly struck by the sentence: "it would be hard to believe that someone who swore loyalty to a brutal fascist would have no animosity to such ideals". In Europe, that sounds very odd! Europe is brimming over with people who have changed their ideas since 1969! Indeed, the few who haven't have been marginalised! But that sort of intellectual rut rigidity is typically US American.
