Over the years I have tried to keep an open mind on the art of psychology. It is becoming increasingly difficult to do so because I have seen too many people who have been "injured" - especially when a Freudian process is used. I have come to refer to it as "therapy syndrome" when the result of the therapy makes the person more aggressive, more self centered, and less empathetic. Now when I encounter a person who has an overwhelming sense of entitlement, I sometimes ask how long they have been in therapy.

As far as psychologists in the military - I don't think that any religious (priests, ministers, rabbis, etc.) , or medical doctors, or psychologists should be part of the military. It enables killing and makes them complicit.

Assuming a great deal and granting Mr. Soldz the benefit of every doubt; I can completely support his humanistic motives and his anti-torturing position - without supporting his intellectual foundation of Freudianism.

Indeed, contempt for his unscientific and soundly falsified Freudianism is mandatory for intellectual hygiene and any genuine hope for social change.

No honest intelligent modern scientist can support such completely un-predictive claims as come from psycholanalytic premises?

Psychoanalytic theory has been proven to be un-scientific, un-predictive, and patently false.
That is most of all there is to say.

Putting some numbers and/or percentages to the faceless but critically different psychological groups would help.

You are very right Gerald! The kind of Soldz support a system which promotes deadly illnesses like "individualism" aka selfishness, "competition" aka envy, "assertiveness" aka intimidation,...with no regard about the sufferings of the others! The kind of Soldz do not want to understand that discrimination, lack of shelter, clothing, hot meals, health care, ...are different faces of violence! US psychologists are going to continue aiding tortureres as long as they refuse to accept the correct definition of Violence!

Lieutenant-General Betrayus, Private First Class - Magilicuddy stationed in bloody iraq, Condi Rice, Dick Cheney, Laura Bush, and Senator Joe Lieberman - as well as most everybody I know want to be "successful at love and work."

"Fuller range of feelings" is okay, too.

"More in touch with objective reality;" is scientifically acceptable, as well.

Even a little bit successful or a little bit more "in touch" would be okay.

So, before we get mental health and in touch with deep spirituality, we must get food, clothing, and shelter?
Es verdad?

Yes psycholanalyst Soldz, torture is so mean, ugly, and utterly stupid.

Your info-mercial for Psychobabble Studies in Boston is equally stupid.

Mr Soldz, Ph.D. is a "Cert. Psya." who knows about psyches, minds, and the waywardness and disease of these metaphysical entities.
You give Soldz lots of money and he gives you the help that Soldz knows that you need.

Palestinian people in Gaza need food, water, and shelter now.
Iraqis need help with their food, water, and shelter problems, too.

MericanPsychologists physically shoveling shid at Iraqi sewer plants could really help.
There are millions of excess trined psychologists in Supernationwith nothing to do.

Considering how easy it is to get trained psychologists to play torturer should tell us much about the so-called head shrinking profession.

This is from Stephen Soldz's Boston Graduate School of Psycholanalysis website;

"Psychoanalysis starts with the assumption that human behavior is unconsciously motivated. The Boston Graduate School of Psychoanalysis is dedicated to the study of these unconscious forces based upon the framework of Sigmund Freud, and further developed by other psychoanalysts such as Hyman Spotnitz. BGSP students rise to the challenge of working hands on with the full range of psychological disorders while researching the inner workings of the human unconsciousness.

Spotnitz began to believe that the nuclear problem in severe narcissistic disorders was not due to repressed sexual content, but to bottled up aggression. His aim became to resolve these patients' resistances to saying everything-including their hostile as well as loving feelings for the analyst. He soon discovered that the process of "saying everything" was facilitated when the patient perceived the analyst as being like himself. When the analyst does nothing to contradict the patient's perceptions, and follows the patients' contacts, a "narcissistic transference" develops which is based on similarity more than on sexual attraction. This narcissistic transference is often tinged with the negative feelings that the patient has about himself as well as the people he encounters. The findings of modern psychoanalysis have contributed new insights into both the dynamics of emotional illnesses and the mechanism through which the analytic process approaches these conditions.

These theories of the treatment of emotional illness include: (1) ways that each patient processes destructive impulsivity in the analytic setting; (2) transference repetition including not only experiences from the oedipal stage of development but also from the prenatal as well as the first two years of life; (3) the systematic utilization of patient-induced countertransference feelings and the use of emotional interchanges between analyst and analysand as an important clinical tool; and (4) use of variations in techniques as necessary to aid in the understanding of patient dynamics and to resolve resistance to personality maturation.

The aim of modern psychoanalysis is to cure patients-to free them from maladaptive and destructive repetitions that dominate their lives and behavior. Medication is palliative; it may be needed temporarily to keep someone alive and functioning, but it does not attempt to influence the unconscious forces that interfere with a patient's ability to respond flexibly and meaningfully. To liberate patients from recurrent emotional states means that they will have a fuller range of feelings, be more in touch with objective reality, and may, as Freud hoped, be successful in love and work."

Anything even remotely resembling the preposterous nonsense theories of Sigmund Freud and Hyman Spotnitz must be completely avoided.

Freud and Spotnitz were hopelessly childish and pompous charlatans who would have done much less brain damage if they had practiced blood letting.

I do not know precisely what is wrong with the psyches and minds of George Bush, Condi Rice, and Dick Cheney.
But if I did, I would surely cure them - free gratis.
