It is intriguing that when one Googles Polonium 210, before long you discover some interesting 'facts'. First, that one of the first, if not the first, incidents of Polonium 210 poisoning occurred amongst workers at Israel's infamous Dimona reactor, home of its nuclear weapons program. Secondly that Polonium poisoning takes several days to manifest itself, hence the fact that Litvinenko met with his alleged assassins the day before he became ill tends to exonerate them. And lastly, for now, that there were reports at the time of Yasser Arafat's mysterious demise that traces of Polonium 210 were found in his body, on autopsy one supposes. As to the veracity of all these reports, well we shall see, but they tend to point the finger not at Russia, but at another state, one that has practiced assassination of its enemies on a truly epic scale for decades.

"Just as the Soviet Union played a positive role in world politics, a counterveiling force to Western imperialism in its Hitlerian incarnation and its softer US/European variants..."

What schoolbook did this come out of? "Western imperialism in its
Hitlerian incarnation?" Pravda ca. 1951? And what positive role, pray tell, did the Soiuz play in countering "its Hitlerian incarnation." You must be talking about the Molotov-Ribbentropp Pact. That was a masterful move on the Soviets' part, wasn't it? It enabled the Russians, as Molotov was fond of saying, to get rid of that "bastard child of the Versailles Treaty," also called Poland. It also enabled the heroic Red Army to try to liberate the oppressed workers and peasants of Finland from the rule of "Western imperialists." Unfortunately, bombed as they were by the heroic Red Air Force, the oppressed workers and peasants were so much under the influence of imperialist propaganda that they actually FOUGHT their liberators. One of those who did so was Arne Saarinen, who later became the head of the Finnish Communist Party. Obviously another agent of Western imperialism.
