Mr. Baroud’s assertion :

“…Israel, on the other hand, denied its military links to the junta, despite much contradictory evidence…”

is unsubstantiated. Israel is not the major supplier of military goods to Burma. China is.

There is one story in Jane’s Magazine that reports Israel doing weapons deals with Burma in 2000. But nothing more recent than that.

But this same story has been circulated over and over again to make Israel “look bad.”

While I can understand expatriat Palestinian activist Ramsey Baroud’s obsession with Israel as “the root of all evil,” let’s have a look at his latest unfounded assertion.

“…Israel, on the other hand, denied its military links to the junta, despite much contradictory evidence. It justified its unwillingness to influence the situation on the grounds of nostalgia — Burma was the first South Asian country to recognise Israel….”

It’s pretty much common knowledge that most of the Junta’s military current suppliers and connections are with China and some with India.

As editor Kim Petersen pointed out in an earlier thread, there’s evidence in Janes Defense Magazine that Israel did business with the Burmese military in 2000.

As in 7-8 years ago.

Whether they still do or not, is rather irrelevant, as in the last 8 years, the Junta has bought weapons and war materiel all over the world.

But because of Mr. Baroud’s particular bias, he doesn’t apparently want to miss a perceived opportunity to give Israel a “black eye.” Well to those of us who know better, it just looks like another cheap and unsubstantiated shot.

We certainly aren’t seeing any calls to boycott Chinese restaurants over this.
