I’d go one further and say the attacks credited to, “MUSLIM” had little if anything to do with religious “extremism”. Some examples you gave were not appropriate analogies because of this.

Burning “witches” was a result of religious beliefs, but the blowback of meddling in other peoples lands, shouldn’t be attributed to the religion of the ones doing it (if indeed those were the ones doing it and it was due to blowback).
