It was a Great march,St Pete for peace was represented.Yes it requires personal sacrifice and inconvenience. It would be great if 200,000 showed up.If you could have seen the counter protesters and the hate and anger they had for the marchers you knew it was the right thing to be there. They are part of this Murderous lot we have in power.People must come to realize that they are not safe in their homes hiding. The ecomomic policy's alone are going to kill them.I knew I was in the right place at the right time

It does seem to have been a different tone. I have been going to anti-war demos since right after Tet. I missed this one. Maybe I should say I skipped this one.
I thought the tone of the last demo in DC was truly different and set the tone for real action (I'm glad this year it escalated to DO with arrests). Last time I saw a number of large puppets showing Bush hanging, either literally from a tree, or just from a rope. I wanted to bring one too but have absolutely no talent in creating that kind of exhibition, so we walked with one carrying a hanging bush.
What happened afterwards? Democrats took over Congress and we're deeper and deeper into the war and preparing for the next one with Iran (with the IDF as our surrogate).

I'm glad DO happened. I'm glad veterans are becoming more and more vocal.
Kudos to Feingold? What's his real record on the war? Doesn't he support it 95% by funding it? He may have been the first to set time tables but that was only for an easy way out of an illegal occupation. Immediate pullout is the only anti-war position. He'd be impeached by his brethren by now if he was a full opponent of the war.

Keep the pressure on. Escalate it. Or, maybe the next Democratic or Republican war president will simply just get tired of it by then.

Those who marched represent to this foreigner the America that so many around the world have admired, an America that we no longer seem to see. There are little glimpses now and then-the day Senator Russ Feingold stood up alone to vote nay to the so-called patriot act. Then there is congressman John McDermott (if I have the spelling right) who refused to buy the administration's claims. Most of all there has been Cindy Sheehan-whose courage seems to have not been truly appreciated. And now I find out about you folks, and I say God bless.
Like America, my country now seems to be under a media blackout when it comes any action against the establishment. Those of us who are old enough heard President Eisenhower's warnings, but we were too stupid to listen. The march was barely mentioned.

Thanks--this is an excellent writeup. Very interesting to hear about the role of veterans in the protest, and having seen a bit of the "Gathering of Eagles" on C-SPAN, I was especially glad to hear that the veterans in the march confronted them directly.
