The local quasi-fascist regime, nearing an election it looks set to lose, is mobilising a number of hate campaigns against despised minorities to mobilise its core support. One of these campaigns, naturally, is an Islamophobic 'fear of terrorism' effort. Our anti-terror laws have just enabled the incarceration without charge of an Indian Moslem doctor, Mohammed Haneef, solely on the grounds of his kin relationship to the doctor patsies in the UK. Unable to find anything to charge him with, of substance, he has been charged with 'recklessly' aiding terrorists, in that he, get this, left his mobile 'phone SIM card with the so-called terrorists in the UK, so they could use it 'til it ran out. The local droogs of the Australian Federal Police have made it plain that his crime was 'reckless' and that no intention or active complicity was involved. So, and he faces at least 15 years in gaol for this 'crime', it is now a major crime to completely unwittingly 'aid' terrorists. How far the chain of 'reckless' behaviour can extend, is up to the imagination of the local Gestapo. It, of course, introduces an equivalent of Big Brother's Thought Crime, or perhaps it criminalises lack of prophetic gifts, in that you failed to discern the future actions of people you had dealings with. Naturally none of the mad Orwellian phantasies involved in this farce have fazed the local media sewer. Murdoch's local Rightwing flagship, The Australian has led the ideological push to crank up the fear and tension. It has been rewarded by the regime with leaks and other denigratory disinformation concerning the victim of this witch-hunt. There seems little doubt a local 'terrorist outrage' is on the cards as a last-ditch tactic if defeat looms for Howard and his odious regime. We have been softened up for months with tales from visiting 'experts', that a terrorist attack is 'inevitable' (in the words of one Israeli 'guest').
