As I understand it:

the USS America stayed in sporadic radio contact with the Liberty for hours as the attack continued.

The commander of the America pleaded for permission to go to the Liberty’s aid repeatedly but was rebuffed at all levels and was eventually put in direct contact with President Lyndon Johnson who told him something like “No help. I repeat, do not send aid to the Liberty. I want that god damned ship to go to the bottom.” The particular article where I read this had a link to a recording purported to be an actual audio recording of Lyndon Johnson saying this. I was only 2 years old when this event occurred and I’ve only heard the voice of President Johnson in recordings (historical film clips, etc.) but the man had a fairly distinct voice and it sounded pretty authentic to me.

Lt. William McGonagle received the Congressional Medal of Honor in secret (as some kind of weird payola for keeping his mouth shut I assume) with the condition that he not tell anyone he had received it.

I first learned of this whole incident during a time in my life when I was intensely interested in the subject of the US government Killing/harming or planning to kill/harm it’s own citizens and this is a wonderful/horrible example. When taken in that context – as one example among many of government treachery against the American people it quickly dispels the American mythos of the US being some shinning example of freedom, liberty, the rule of law and government “by the people for the people.”

Other examples of government horrors perpetrated against the American people include the Ludlow massacre, feeding uranium to prisoners and the Tuskeegee Airmen, Mk-ultra, Operation Northwoods, (planned but not carried out of course – at least that anyone can prove), the big wet kiss to Nazi scientists with operation Paperclip, Waco, Ruby Ridge, Union head bashing during the 30s and 40s, etc, etc, etc, .. The list just goes on and on.

One example I like to bring up often is the bombing of Chicago by the Chicago Police. I forget the year 1978? 1979? The point is that it is an incedant well within the lifetimes of anyone even a bit older than me but seems to have been completely forgotten by EVERYONE that I ask. For some reason the memory of a police department bombing and burning down an entire city block in a Major US city doesn’t stick with most people even though it was covered by the media and within the lifetime of the people I ask about it.

For those who don’t remember or are two young: The short version is that a drug raid gone wrong and a resulting shootout prompted the Chicago police to drop an incendiary on a the building (by helicopter) killing the perps + the poor haitian refugee families living there. The resulting fire got WAY out of control and burned the entire block down.

Thank god for the internet because a couple of years ago I had to look it up to be sure I hadn’t imagined it since nobody I talked to seemed to remember the event. For some reason it stuck in MY mind even though I was only maybe 12 or 13 when it happened..

Add a bit of whip cream and a cherry on top of all that with the sinking of the Lucitania, Gulf of Tonkin, Bay of Pigs, possible foreknowledge of the attack on Pearl Harbor, blah, blah, blah, yadda, yadda, and before long one has to ask a few hard questions about 9/11 and 7/7. Even with no evidence whatsoever, if my daughter was raped I’d be insane not to grill the serial rapist living next door about it and I’d be unlikely to take his answers at face value.

Maybe someday they’ll start to actually teach history instead of “based on a true story” docudramas in schools but I very much doubt it. It wouldn’t really be in their best interest would it?

I have written to John McCain about the Liberty and asked how he could avoid pushing for a proper investigation, something I had trouble understanding, until I began to read more about the contributions of his father to the failure to remove the LIberty prior to the attack, and to protect it and the sailors in the water during and after this dastardly action by a so-called ally.

This is the only logical explanation that fits all the facts. Many attempts have been made to present only part of the story, this article tells it all. Of course, Johnson and McNamara were in on it, just as Bush and Rumsfeld were in on 9/11. The Liberty operation was a variant on the accidentally leaked operation Northwoods:

“…trumping up wars for Americans to fight and die in was standard, approved policy at the highest levels of the Pentagon. In fact, the Gulf of Tonkin seems right out of the Operation Northwoods playbook: “We could blow up a U.S. ship in Guantanamo Bay and blame Cuba . . . casualty lists in U.S. newspapers cause a helpful wave of indignation.” One need only replace “Guantanamo Bay” with “Tonkin Gulf,” and “Cuba” with “North Vietnam” and the Gulf of Tonkin incident may or may not have been stage-managed, but the senior Pentagon leadership at the time was clearly capable of such deceit.”

Of course there is no longer any doubt that the Gulf of Tonkin “incident” was faked. It is also now known that the explosion in the Maine occurred within the lower part of the ship and was not a result of “enemy” action.
