WHOSE WAS THE BLAME
Jeff Halper's timely article about the quiet diplomacy between Livini and Rice is an eye opener. Oceans of ink in the world press consistantly wishing for some sort of fair solution to the dilemma of Palestine and Israel is simply pointless. In fact there is no longer any point in paying attention to the dilemma. The next meaningful dialogue to listen to will be a Palestinian-Israeli election asking Palestinians what terms they desire to receive should they vote to become citizens of Israel. Mr. Halper under-estimates the possibilites of the one-state solution. He will come around to the fact that Israelis and Palestinians have a duty to share the land for the sake of youth on both sides. It is truly odd that the concept of social exclusivity is so counter-productive in the Holy Land. What irony. The British poet Percy Shelley summed up this irony in one of his poems 150 years ago: To take away is not to divide.

Even Jews recognize apartheid when they see it. The issue is Zionism and its racist and separatist tenets. Apparently openly racist/Zionism is quite acceptable in the U.S. especially on the so called "left" and definitely among liberals. Zionism clearly has caused division among the so called "anti-war" so called "movement".

Writers and speakers try to avoid the issue hoping that by saying "no war for oil" that will move people into action. People can rationalize "war for oil" it means lower gasoline prices or maintaining the economy for jobs.

The "no war for oil" slogan is weak and the result of such notions is leading people to embrace ethanol as a solution which is having the effect of raising food prices and extending subsidies to the big agricultural conglomerates.

It seems the so called "left" fears having a real conversation about racism and Zionism in the U.S. perhaps because these so called "speakers" enjoy the privileges that comes from being white and being on top.
