The old "divide-and-conquer" is upon us again, and if the divide side wins, then America definitely loses. It's easy to look toward the African-American community and have mixed feelings about hostilities and resentments some segments harbor toward other minorities, but it's important to understand that most African-Americans are not descended from voluntary immigrants and that black history is so ingrained and crucial to U.S. history that a gut 'what about us?' reaction is understandable. The next 5 or so years are going to tell us a lot; hopefully we can build strong foundations of solidarity.
